What a month! Earthquakes, Snow Storms, Occupy Wall Street , Troy Davis and Halloween. I have written several posts but for some reason, it has taken me the last day and hour of the month to actually get some words on my blog. Although, I have not publicized this blog yet, I would like to at least put down a few words once a month to get into some type of vibe. This post is about “Seeking the Positive”. There is so much negativity in the world that I just wanted to share how I am keeping my “head up” and to remind others that thoughts are living things and should be guarded.
So, what does your thinking say about you? What types of thoughts do you find yourself focused on most often? Positive thinking can help to build self-confidence, help to find your voice, and destroy any negative thoughts that ooze their way into the subconscious and influence behavior. Focusing on a positive outcome has helped me to feel good about my current reality. I feel more confident which helps me to stand up and find my voice and hush the negative clamoring that seeks to distract me from finding my truth. Self-assurance is created by self worth and value which are the fundamental principles for gaining confidence. In order to develop self-confidence, we must be aware of our gifts, talents and capabilities. Appreciating the good qualities in ourselves allows them to transcend outward into the magnificent specimen that we are. Just like compliments can go along way to make others feel special, recognizing our own positive attributes boosts our self-esteem and enables us to find that inner voice in order to share our perspective with the world.
“Seeking the positive” is about finding your voice for the “common good” of self and others. According to Stephen Covey: voice is a unique personal significance –significance that is revealed as we face our greatest challenges and which makes us equal to them. Voice lies at the nexus of talent (your natural gifts & strengths), passion (those things that naturally energize, excite, motivate and inspire you), need (including what the world needs enough to pay you for), and conscious (that still, small voice within that assures you of what is right and that prompts you to actually do it). Finding your voice is a natural pathway to success. “When you engage in work that taps your talent and fuels your passion –that rises out of a great need in the world that you feel drawn by conscience to meet –therein lies your voice, your calling, your soul’s code.”
When you are “seeking the positive,” negative beliefs about yourself begin to crop up. Issues and feelings you thought were long ago conquered spring forth to try to prevent your progression. Silencing this negative self-talk is mandatory to support your voice and confidence. We are what we focus on. When we hush the negative dialogue, we allow ourselves to “seek the positive” and propel forward. Perhaps this is why meditation is so important. Meditation helps you to unwind, de-stress and refocus your attention on what truly matters. It is a challenge being able to release all non-essential thoughts, feelings and experiences to capture our positive visions.
Building confidence, finding your voice and destroying negative beliefs are the components that I use to “seek the positive.” Going within and captivating your thoughts is not an easy task, yet, it will guide you to the outcome you are seeking which is great success. So challenge yourself I dare you…and if you already have it going on…well teach someone else.
